Brepols wants to strengthen its in-house organization for the production of the Corpus Christianorum critical editions and the BREPOLiS Latin databases. For employment at our Thessaloniki office, we require a: Prepress Editor / Digital Philologist
Your Roles
₋ Technical editing and typesetting of critical editions of Greek and Latin texts for publication in the Corpus Christianorum series
• Checking and formally harmonizing submitted manuscripts
• Technical editing and applying the style guide to author version (introduction, edition with apparatus, images, graphs, indices)
• Typesetting and processing corrections
• In-house liaising with colleagues involved in related production aspects (assembly of files, cover design, rendering of print files, preflight checks)
₋ Preparing updates to full-text and dictionary databases for ancient languages (mainly Latin and Greek) developed by Brepols’ in-house digital Classics lab CTLO
• Structuring and technically editing text and dictionary files for use in the full-text databases on BREPOLiS
• Interpreting, organizing, and assigning metadata for edited source texts in Latin and other ancient languages
• Creating lexical entries in the lemma database, and assigning relevant linguistic information
Your Profile
₋ A profound knowledge (MA level or higher) of Ancient Greek and Latin, as well as experience with critical editions is crucial
₋ Familiarity with Late and Medieval Latin, and with Romance historical linguistics is a significant advantage
₋ You have a passion for books but the technical and linguistic perspectives take precedence
₋ You have a demonstrated affinity with digital humanities and philology, in particular textual criticism; experience with Classical Text Editor CTE) is an advantage
₋ Proficiency in English and/or French is required; knowledge of other modern or classic languages will be an advantage
₋ You have an analytical mind and are accurate, efficient, and service-oriented
₋ You are flexible with regard to various and changing assignments
₋ You communicate efficiently and report appropriately
