ONE (1) POSITION OF BUILDING & INFRASTRUCTURES OFFICER

The ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (CoE) (www.eratosthenes.org.cy) of the Cyprus University of Technology (www.cut.ac.cy) invites applications for one (1) position of Building & Infrastructures Officer at ERATOSTHENES CoE. The position is open on a full-time employment basis.

ERATOSTHENES CoE is an autonomous Centre of Excellence with Cyprus University of Technology as its sole stakeholder, specialising in earth observation, space technology and geospatial analysis. Cyprus University of Technology has more than 15-years experience in earth observations and geospatial analysis. Through the “EXCELSIOR” H2020 Teaming Project (https://excelsior2020.eu/), ERATOSTHENES CoE aspires to become a Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation and Geospatial Information by offering knowledge, responsible research, open innovation and application services capable of sustaining Cyprus’ development. ERATOSTHENES CoE aspires to actively contribute to the European Research Area (ERA) priorities in Atmosphere and Climate, Resilient Societies and Big Earth Data Analytics, as well as to become the reference Earth Observation/Geoinformation Centre for research and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) region.

A core activity of ERATOSTHENES CoE is to conduct high caliber, state-of-the-art research, both basic and applied. A central task is to acquire research funding for the Centre, to provide facilities to the researchers, and to support them to acquire funding for their research independently and via international and local collaborations. Collaborations with industrial partners are particularly encouraged and facilitated.

Description of the Position
The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective management, maintenance, safety, and functionality of all buildings, infrastructure, equipment, inventory, and quality systems of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence. This includes overseeing and maintaining ISO standards and certifications, ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations, and managing the Centre’s inventory and asset control processes. The role ensures a safe, efficient, compliant, and high-quality working environment that supports the Centre’s operational excellence and strategic objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate’s duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and upkeep of all buildings, facilities, and infrastructure of the Centre.
  • Ensure buildings and installations are safe according to National law, functional, and fit for purpose at all times.
  • Coordinate routine inspections, repairs, renovations, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Liaise with external contractors, service providers, and suppliers for maintenance, repairs, renovations and technical services.
  • Monitoroperation of building systems including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and structural components.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date inventory of all equipment, assets, and infrastructure of the Centre.
  • Track equipment location, condition, maintenance schedules, warranties, and lifecycle status.
  • Ensure proper use, storage, maintenance, and servicing of equipment.
  • Coordinate repairs or replacement of damaged, obsolete, or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Provide technical input and support procurement processes related to infrastructure and equipment.
  • Act as the focal point for Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) matters within the Centre and lead relevant committees of the Centre.
  • Ensure compliance with national legislation, regulations, and institutional policies related to health and safety.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and emergency response plans.
  • Oversee fire safety systems, alarms, extinguishers, evacuation plans, and emergency drills.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of buildings, equipment, and workspaces.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and propose corrective and preventive actions.
  • Serve as the responsible officer for the ISO Quality Management System of the Centre (e.g. ISO 9001 and/or other applicable ISO standards).
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the Centre’s Quality Management System in line with ISO requirements.
  • Ensure that infrastructure, equipment management, maintenance, and safety procedures comply with ISO standards.
  • Coordinate internal audits, management reviews, and corrective/preventive actions related to the ISO system.
  • Liaise with external auditors and certification bodies and support ISO certification and re-certification processes.
  • Maintain ISO-related documentation, procedures, records, and quality manuals.
  • Promote quality awareness and compliance across the Centre through guidance and training.
  • Provide technical and operational support to staff, researchers, and visitors regarding facilities and infrastructure.
  • Coordinate space allocation, room setup, and infrastructure support for research activities, events, and meetings.
  • Respond promptly to infrastructure-related issues, faults, or emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate records related to building maintenance, equipment inventory, health and safety, and ISO compliance.
  • Prepare reports on infrastructure performance, maintenance activities, safety indicators, and quality system status.
  • Support internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure efficiency, safety, sustainability, and quality performance.
  • Contribute to long-term planning for infrastructure development and quality enhancement.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and responsible asset management across the Centre.
  • Any other supporting administrative duties deemed necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Civil engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in similar positions will be considered an advantage, but not necessary.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO).
  • Knowledge in inventory software and Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Forms).
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Fluency in English and Greek (both written and spoken).

The appointment will be for a period of one year (12 months) with the prospect of renewal for another one year. The annual gross salary for the full-time position will be in the range of salary scale A8 (€24.500 – €37.667), depending on qualifications and experience. It is noted that there is provision for 13th salary (the cost of the 13th salary is proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration).
