The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena invites applications for theposition of
Professor of Didactics of English (W3),
to be filled by October 1, 2026.
The successful candidate (m/f/d) will represent the whole field of English didactics at the Department of English and American Studies. Candidates with outstanding expertise in the field of English didactics and an excellent research and publication record are eligible if they can demonstrate a focus on empirical research in foreign language teaching and/or in the area ofintercultural/transcultural learning.
The successful candidate is expected to have experience in raising third-party funds and to showleadership as well as high-quality teaching skills, evidenced by class-evaluations and by using innovative methods. Aside from an excellent command of English and a thorough familiarity with the Germaneducational system, they should have completed the second state exam (zweites Staatsexamen). The doctoral degree or the habilitation (or equivalent qualifications) should have been obtained in the field of foreign language didactics.
A willingness to contribute to the faculty’s research agenda, participation in teaching in various teachertraining programs as well as involvement in the development of the curriculum of foreign language didactics would be welcome, for example, in the context of internationalizing teacher training or digitization in education. In addition, participation in self-administration and knowledge transfer isappreciated (e.g. through the organization of training sessions and collaboration with schools).Collaboration with the Center for Teacher Education (Zentrum für Lehrerbildung) is expected.
Applicants are required to hold a university degree, demonstrate pedagogical aptitude as well as a high capability for academic study, evidenced through a doctoral degree and a habilitation (or equivalent qualifications). Section 84 (3) ThürHG applies. Appointment as a professor shall be for life as a civil servant, provided that the legal requirements are met.
