Individual counselling takes the form of one-hour, short-term, scheduled individual meetings. In these meetings, the student/graduate discusses issues of concern with the counsellor, such as difficulty in choosing a field of study, making career decisions, or searching for a job. Through the development of a structured relationship based on trust between counsellor and counsellee, the student/graduate is able to discover his/her personal inclinations, interests, and needs, and to combine them with existing labour market opportunities. Essentially, they are provided with support in making informed personal decisions about academic and career choices. Individual counselling as a process also helps in establishing and approaching the counsellee’s professional goals, in designing and implementing a personalized action plan, in improving job-search skills, and in developing effective tools for presenting professional qualifications, such as writing a CV, preparing for job interviews or postgraduate applications, etc.
